There are eight anti-gravity towers surrounding Moonbase Alpha used to stabilize gravity inside the structures. Access to Eagles is through the end door which opens into the boarding tube on the launch pad. Access to and from corridors is via double side doors on the sides of the pod.

Travel tubes provide rapid transit between sections of the base and to the launch pads via a cylindrical travel pod which contains four or six seats depending on the tube being used. These launch pads are circular but have descending cross-platforms that lower the Eagles into underground hangars for storage and maintenance. There are five launch pads visible around the base which have extending/retracting boarding tubes via the reception building for access to the Eagles and visiting spaceships. Power is generated through nuclear reactors and the accumulation of solar energy. Moonbase Alpha is totally self-sustaining. Construction began on February 3, 1983, but was briefly halted during the 1987 thermonuclear war. Originally, the base was designed to serve as both a deep space exploration station and a monitoring station for the nuclear waste areas on the Moon's far side. Located in the Moon crater Plato and constructed out of quarried rock and ores, Moonbase Alpha is 4 kilometers in diameter and extends up to 1 kilometer in areas below the lunar surface.
